2008 Jurors

Ann Welles ~ Ann Welles is an artist and curator living in Big Flats, NY where she also maintains a studio.  Currently the Visual Arts Curator of 171 Cedar Arts Center’s Houghton Gallery in Corning NY, Welles is often called on to serve on grant review panels and act as an art juror.  She has lectured at various colleges and arts organizations, and has been active organizer in the arts community; including two terms on the board of The ARTS of the Southern Finger Lakes. Since graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Fine Art in Metalsmithing from Syracuse University, Welles has been an exhibiting artist working, at various times, in non-ferrous metals, oil painting, sculpture and mixed media.

Janet G. Eryway ~ Janet G. Erway was immersed in art from an early age, drawing, practicing calligraphy and making greeting cards for friends and family, all of which she continues to do today.  She began participated in juried exhibits as early as High School.  Janet then attended Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, where she concentrated in printmaking, receiving a BA in Fine Art in 1992.  Following graduation she worked at Hartwick College’s Round Hill Press printing the lithographs of visiting Polish artist, Edgar Podgorski.  At the same time she mentored with jewelry artist, Wendy Black-Nasta of Oneonta.  In the fall of 1992, Janet began working part-time as the Assistant to the Director of the Cooperstown Art Association. In her spare time she assisted artist Deborah Geurtze and was responsible for printing, matting and framing three-color intaglio etchings. Later she worked independently for Adelphi Wallpaper Hangings, interpreting and restoring original, antique wallpaper designs.   

Currently, Janet has been with the Cooperstown Art Association for 16 years, 14 serving as the Executive Director. Holding the multifaceted position of Director, Janet is responsible for exhibit curating, publicity, and the development of membership, workshops and special events.  During that time frame she has instituted many new fundraisers, annual events and exhibits along with art classes and workshops. 

Throughout her time at the Cooperstown Art Association Janet has had the opportunity to serve as the juror of selection and awards at various galleries, colleges and special events.

Janet resides in Fly Creek with her husband, Victor, their daughter, Carly and their son, Conrad.


Rhea Nowak Rhea Nowak received her BA from Bennington College in Printmaking and Painting, her MFA from the University of Connecticut in Printmaking and Drawing, and a Master Printer Certificate from Il Bisonte an international school of printmaking in Florence Italy. She joined the Art Department faculty at SUNY College at Oneonta in the fall of 2008 where she teaches foundations and printmaking. Her prints, drawings and unique books have been exhibited in juried and solo shows in both the U.S. and Europe including, most recently, a solo show at Kent State University in Ohio. Her work involves ideas of continuity, chance, and change, and draws from such sources as Buddhist philosophy, musical composition and current scientific theories.
